Linux Multi Media Studio – LMMS is a totally free program to work with midi and samples. It can import FL studio files and is compatible with standard plugin types like VST, LADSPA and soundfont2.
Reaper – A complete DAW (audio and midi). Download the free evaluation version (which is un-crippled) for 30 days. If you like it, you should then purchase a license. For $40, it competes brilliantly with competitors that cost much more.
Ardour - OS X and Linux. (no Windows version). Audio and midi. Many common standards are supported.
MuseScore – Free alternative for music printing software sequencers.
Noteflight – An online platform for creating and sharing sheet music notation. Great idea.
